Flat Top Double Gates

All our gates are produced with care and attention to detail, and subject to continuous development.

The timbers we use are 56mm x 95 mm for the main frame, and all held together with mortice and tennon joints.
We then clad the gates in boarding which provides maximum strength, with minimum weight. Remember that boarding adds no strength to the gate, it is only to stop anybody looking through!

The top rails are rounded to act as a water shed, and the gates are sealed in the areas most likely to get attacked by water.
There are a variety of timbers you can have your gates made from, all with their own qualities, so the descriptions are worth a quick read!

Choosing your wood:

Redwood - This timber is classed as a moderatly hard timber suitable for outside use, takes a stain well , but does need attention during its life. more

Siberian Larch - VERY DURABLE - Its one of the toughest and hardest softwoods in the world, and is ideal where physical damage may occur ie knocks and scapes. more

Idigbo - Hardwood that looks very similar to Oak. Durable, but will benefit from a regular protective coating of oil, If left to the elements it will turn silver grey. more

Would you like your gate pretreating?

This is in the form of a clear stabilising solution which resists moisture entering the gate, and therefore stops the gate suddenly expanding. In the reverse situation, it reduces moisture being pulled rapidly out which can cause timber to crack and warp.
It also inhibits the growth of black mould which can cause unsightly marks on the gates.

How To Measure your gate

Please note that to obtain the right calculation it is the height of the posts that must be used. The width required is the width between the posts, post widths as supplied are 6 inches per post.

  • When ordering we will unless requested otherwise reduce the width of any gate by 1 inch and the height by 2inches to enable the gate to be fitted properly.
  • It is important that these gaps are present to allow the gate to swell during humid weather
